Purpose of Position: The central goal for the Estimator will be to prepare accurate estimates for fabricated metal components and assemblies by gathering information, analyzing important metrics, and conducting regular risk assessments. The ideal candidate will be fluent in manufacturing, with in-depth knowledge of bills and routings for metal products and estimating ERP systems. In addition to being an excellent communicator, candidates should also be detail oriented with outstanding organizational skills.

Essential Job Specific Duties:    

  1. Responsible for project quoting efforts which includes shop labor hours, materials, tooling requirements and coordinating quotes from outside vendors.
  2. Understands the part/project and its requirements from the job specifications.
  3. Review customer drawings and RFP/RFQs to ensure all specifications are considered in the quoting process.
  4. Enters quotes and prints job travelers from the ERP system
  5. Determine key variables for cost and other estimates.
  6. Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, production times etc.
  7. Review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors.
  8. Perform risk analysis.
  9. Create and submit estimate reports or bids to appropriate persons (project managers, clients, sales team, etc.)
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skill Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor or Associates degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering is preferred or relevant field experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years as an Estimator or similar role
  • Basic mathematical skills and knowledge
  • Understanding of how to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • ERP Systems experience, Global Shop preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Knowledge of and the ability to understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Knowledge of and the ability to understand welding symbols
  • Knowledge of and the ability to understand AWS and ASME welding codes
  • Proficient in estimating sheet metal components and weldments
  • Strong candidates will have estimating skills in machining and machine weldments
