Purpose of Position:  Provide Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering support for a manufacturer of a wide variety of custom critical welded and machined products serving markets such as military and oil exploration. 

Essential Job Specific Duties:

  1. Promote a culture of safety through observance and completing work in a safe manner.
  2. Promotes the ISO 9001/2015 culture ensuring that every function and operation happens with high quality. Works will all engineering team members in writing and following written work instructions.
  3. Provide support for project quoting efforts which includes shop labor hours, materials, tooling requirements.
  4. Provide routings for fabrication to the production floor.
  5. Review customer specifications and requirements for quoting efforts.
  6. Collaborate with shop operations on tool design and manufacturing processes.
  7. Interface with customer for any clarification of project requirements.
  8. Produce manufacturing, tooling and process drawings utilizing Solidworks
  9. Ability to complete basic beam strength calculations.
  10. Ability to interpret codes, specifications, and industry standards to meet product requirements.
  11. Develop manufacturing procedures for new projects.
  12. Contribute to the development and revision of company engineering standards.
  13. Investigate and propose new manufacturing technologies and techniques.
  14. Assist manufacturing in the LEAN Transformation. This is carried out by including LEAN thinking in writing manufacturing procedures, tooling concepts and other avenues where LEAN can be applied.
  15. Perform other tasks, which may be required to meet company needs.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

 Education and Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years of experience in a custom fabrication environment, welding environment preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of welding, machining, rolling, forming, and shape cutting practices.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected with minimal supervision.
  • Experience using MS Word, Excel, ERP systems, and CAD software.
  • Good understanding of the applications of LEAN Concepts in a job shop environment.
  • Familiar with welding related specifications such as ASME, AWS and military.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls.  The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
